“An Angel on Earth”
Campfire Creek mourns the loss of one of their own yet celebrates her compassion, friendship and love for her students, horses and fellow volunteers!
In the spring of 2009 Campfire Creek hosted a volunteer orientation where we met Cathy Wrzesinski. She was very friendly and seemed so interested in what therapeutic riding was all about. As it turned out, Cathy would be everything a therapeutic riding center needed in a volunteer….all wrapped up in one package.
Cathy loved children. And she could instruct and guide them while they enjoyed her instruction! She loved horses and knew what they needed and how to interact with them. Cathy was always willing to learn more about horsemanship for the benefit of the therapy center and even had a desire to become certified as an instructor. She loved people and knew how to work with the very sweet personalities as well as the ones with “salty” exteriors. She was a hard worker….nothing was beneath her (like cleaning stalls). Her smile, her laugh and her antics were full of life and energy that we all drew from. When we had a volunteer hole to fill… Cathy was our “go to” girl! Each of us depended on her and flinched when we knew she would have to miss a class day (which was very rare).
Relationships were birthed from working in the class with Cathy. Every rider became attached to her. The parents came to trust their child (even the most physically or emotionally challenged) to her care. Her fellow volunteers developed a deep friendship with her. We laughed with her in class and took her teasing as she took ours! All volunteers respected her knowledge and her heart for the work at Campfire Creek.
Cathy was truly a therapeutic riding center’s dream for a volunteer. Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Cathy this year of 2013 but in reality she carried that title every year. We will miss her smile, her hard work, her knowledge, her patience and her driving up and rushing to the barn with her Route 44 in her hand ready to give to CCTRC.
Our hearts are broken but our spirits soar for having known Cathy as a friend and fellow volunteer. She truly made a difference in the lives of children and adults with challenges. Campfire Creek was blessed and is a better place for having had Cathy Wrzesinski in our lives.
With love and heartfelt appreciation for our friend~
